Professor Peter Steel(University of Canterbury, Christchurch, NZ) is an international authority on heterocylic organic synthesis and metallosupramolecular chemistry. In the collaborative program with Professor Richard Keene, and Assoc.-Profs. Grant Collins, Kirsten Heimann and Jeffrey Warner, his research group will focus on the design and synthesis of new bridging ligands that contain optimum chemical characteristics for antimicrobial activity as determined from the results of this study. Professors Steel and Keene have an established and productive collaboration through joint ARC-DP and Marsden (NZ) research grants. Professor Steel currently holds an Adjunct appointment at James Cook University in the School of Pharmacy & Molecular Sciences.
