Workforce and Practice Development Program

Led by the Professor Lee Stewart Dean of the College of Healthcare Sciences, this program aims to strengthen health systems through developing an evidence base regarding the practice of nursing and midwifery in the tropics. In particular, the program links the following concepts: clinical governance, leadership, the conditions and context within which nurses and midwives work, and patient safety.

Research currently focuses on several key themes:

  • The experience of early career registered nurses
  • Integrated electronic medical records, nursing care and patient outcomes
  • Health systems strengthening to promote wise and informed patient choices
