Given the increasing importance of private land conservation, we conducted a literature review of the studies focusing on motives for participation. We focused on participation in perpetual conservation easements as these are one of the most frequently used programs and also lacking a comprehensive review. The data in this publication contain the list of publications that were included in the literature search conducted for this review and the excel table that was created to interpret the literature. Detailed methods are available in the open access article.
