About the DRO

The Daintree Rainforest Observatory is a high profile education and research centre, designed to enable, support and showcase the best in Australian environmental and sustainability science. It provides research opportunities unmatched anywhere else in the southern hemisphere, from broad ecological processes acting over a national scale through to fine scale ecological processes and unbroken access from the atmosphere through the canopy and down to the soil.

crane-gondolaIntegrated into JCU’s teaching program, adjacent to Australia’s Wet Tropics World Heritage listed lowland tropical rainforests, accommodation and catering infrastructure for 54 people, well-equipped laboratories and a tower crane providing canopy access to nearly 1 hectare of rainforest, DRO provides an unforgettable hands-on field experience for Australian and International researchers and students.

You can visit the observatory to teach students, to conduct research, or in several other capacities.
