Understanding current workforce and health needs to inform training investment in regional remote Queensland

Indicative Funding
$153,742 over 2 years (administered by Australian College of Rural & Remote Medicine)
Ensuring equitable and sustainable distribution of rural GPs is a critical challenge for the Australian health system. Little is knows about the extent to which GP registrars are being trained in locations where need for their services is greatest, nor how to best remedy areas of identified undersupply. With these gaps in mind, this study aims to: 1. Identify current distribution of GP registrars and GP supervisors relative to the Modified Monash Model (MMM) and community need (Index of Access) in north western Queensland. 2. Work with GMT and GP workforce stakeholders in Queensland to broaden the quantitative findings based on their working knowledge of underserved locations and their key issues. 3. Work with underserved communities to explore opportunities to build high quality GP supervision in their community (innovative models, health system linkages or other solutions)
