Dr Cecily Knight is an Adjunct A/Prof with Learning,Teaching and Student Engagement. She is an educator in crisis support with Lifeline Australia, and has been involved in the redesign of approaches to learning and teaching in the suicide prevention field. This is also the focus of her current research. In her previous role as Manager, Blended Learning & Innovation, she was responsible for leading change and professional development in approaches to learning and teaching across disciplines at JCU.

Her research interests focus on ways to develop excellence in learning and teaching in higher education and in adult education. She is interested in the learning and teaching opportunities afforded by blended learning approaches; and the capacity of students and staff to manage change and be resilient in 21st century learning environments. In 2020, there have been many changes in the blended learning field with the uptake of virtual platforms, and subsequently the opportunity to research the impact on adult learning.

  • Educating for resilience. Cecily has a keen interest in mental health promotion and has designed courses and researched the concept of building resilience and social and emotional wellbeing across a range of contexts. Her interest in resilience education has extended to the resilience of HDR students and the capacity to manage change in the workplace.
  • Blended learning. Cecily is interested in research into blended learning program design, exploring the use of learning environments for the 21st century learner, active pedagogies and the use of new technologies for learning in higher education. The experiences of both staff and students are important. She is interested in understanding the broader implications of the use of technology for learning and teaching in higher education particularly as it relates to workforce capacity to meet the changing landscape of higher education.
