I am an interdisciplinary marine and social scientist specialising in tropical environments. My overarching research interest is in identifying opportunities to improve the wellbeing of communities and the environment through the study of complex social-ecological systems. My recent work has explored the ecological and social impacts of coastal development in Australia and the Pacific region, with a particular focus on seagrass ecosystems.

Prior to joining JCU, I worked for the Australian Government in a range of areas including marine conservation management planning for Australian shark and pinniped species, cetacean conservation policy, and environmental impact assessment. My work strongly emphasises the use of participatory research techniques, and I collaborate with researchers and stakeholders from across the university, government, NGO and industry sectors. I am also affiliated with the University of Queensland Global Change Institute and the Centre for Global Governance, University of Canberra.
