My research interests fall into two main categories: (1) learner centred instruction and (2) education for the environment and farmed animals. I write more than I do primary research. My writing usually appears in low level, online publications, although I also do books for organisations, most recently for the Indonesian Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language.

Under learner centred instruction, the main areas I write on are cooperative learning and extensive reading. I also teach a lot of teacher education of cooperative learning, mostly for in-service teachers outside of mainstream education, e.g., people who teach nurses. Plus, I'm on the boards of the International Association for the Study of Cooperation in Education and the Extensive Reading Foundation.

Under education for the environment and farmed animals, my main area is advocacy of plant based diets, including moving towards such diets. In this regard, I am on the boards of two local organisations - Vegetarian Society (Singapore) and Kampung Senang - and one international organisation: International Ecolinguistics.
