Prof Janina Mazierska pioneered the field of microwave measurements of low loss materials in Australia and made a significant contribution worldwide. For achievements related to precise microwave characterisation of High Temperature Superconductors (HTS) and dielectrics she was elected an IEEE Fellow.

Janina proposed a dielectric resonator for accurate measurements of surface resistance of HTS materials and contributed to the develpment of the world standard.

With her team she developed a state-of-the-art Microwave Characterisation Facility at James Cook University. Competitive research funding awarded amounts to $M1.5 as the First Chief Investigator, plus over $2.1M as a Chief Investigator.
