Joanna is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and Senior Lecturer. She joined JCU Singapore in October 2013. She currently lectures on the professional course in clinical psychology, and she is responsible for clinical and research supervision of trainee clinical psychologists and PhD students.
Joanna completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University College London in the UK. She then worked for five years in the UK National Health Service, specialising in working with adults with severe and enduring mental health problems and offending behaviour in both inpatient secure hospitals and community settings. Her clinical knowledge covers a wide range of presenting problems, with particular interest in developmental adversity and its links to psychopathology and well-being. Her clinical approach is primarily cognitive-behavioural with a special interest in schema-focused therapy.
Joanna primarily uses qualitative methodologies in her research and is interested in understanding the impact of early adversity on adult mental health and behaviour, the experiences of mental health professionals and caregivers, and clients receiving interventions.
