Understanding Climate Change Driven Coastal Erosion and Inundation Impacts on Torres Strait Island's and the Development of Adaptation Options

Indicative Funding
$400,000 over 3 years
The project will undertake an assessment of the risks of climate change driven coastal erosion and inundation of Torres Strait Island communities, including risks to infrastructure and housing. Working closely with the communities, it will also identify and assess specific adaptation options and document those options preferred by the communities. The project will extend the work of the completed project Long Term Management of Erosion on cay Island's in Torres Strait by Parnell and Smithers (2009). It will be focussed on the thirteen Torres Strait Island communities that were not covered by the Parnell and Smithers project. Given the limited adaptation options available for the Island's of Boigu and Saibai, a cost-benefit analysis will be undertaken for these two Island's.
