My PhD research, awarded in 2001, explored the nature of nursing work in the Vietnam war, as experienced by Australian Army nurses who were deployed to Vietnam between 1967 and 1971. Since then, I have had a book published by Random House/Penguin, entitled Tears on my pillow: Australian nurses in Vietnam, and was script consultant for a documentary screened on SBS in 2005, entitled Vietnam Nurses, along with numerous papers in scholarly journals on the topic of military nursing in war and historical research methodology. My research interests include the experience of women in the military, innovative research methods in the digital age, and nursing (both civilian and military) history.
