Neil Dunbar began working at JCU in 2004 when appointed Manager of the University’s Committees in the Governance Unit. Whilst acting in this role Neil undertook some educational studies and obtained the degrees of a Master of Business Administration and Master of Dispute Resolution.
This paved the way for Neil to transfer to the Faculty of Law, Business and Creative Arts where he commenced lecturing in the Law School in 2008. Neil completed a Graduate Certificate in Education (Tertiary Teaching) in 2012.
Neil thoroughly enjoys teaching and has been awarded two citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in 2015 and jointly with colleague Claire Holland in 2020.
Neil has also developed an interest in research and commenced his PhD in 2014. His main area of research involves professional team sports and their relationship with Competition Law. Neil's thesis entitled ‘A Critical Examination of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play Regulations’ was completed in 2021. Since its completion, Neil has published five articles from his PhD material either jointly with academic colleagues or on his own. He is now refocusing his research interest in the general area of professional team sports and their relationship with Competition Law with the intention of producing more articles in this field.
Neil has also taken on administrative roles within the Law discipline in the last two years. Neil is currently First Year Coordinator for Law looking after Townsville and external students. Neil is also Course Coordinator for Law.
