Dr Ray McNamara research interest are in equity and resource valuation, corporate governance and auditing. Current research projects include a multidisciplinary team addressing agricultural innovations and climate ressearcgh. He is an academic with extensive experience in accounting, audit and finance in the private and public sectors. Dr McNamara gained his bachelor’s degree from the Queensland University of Technology, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Queensland.  He Obtained his Doctorate in 1990 from the University of Queensland.  He is the Associate Dean for Research Education in the College of Business, Law and Governance at James Cook University and an Associate Professor in Accounting.  Academically he has held the positions of Deputy Chair of Senate, Director of the School of Business MCom (Hons) and Doctoral Program and Director of the Centre for Corporate Governance, Head of the Department of Accounting, Deputy Dean at Griffith University’s Commerce and Administration faculty and Head of the Information Systems Department. He has received the Vice Chancellor’s Quality Award for Postgraduate Supervision and an Award of merit for doctoral supervision from the American Accounting Association. 

Ray’s industry experience covers mining, retailing, efficiency auditing, project evaluation, share valuation, finance, manufacturing, with consultancies to a range of enterprises in the private and public sectors.  He has held senior executive prositions experience includes positions of Finance Director, Company Secretary and Board member an Australian mining company.  During his period of tenure he was integrally involved in a $35m exploration program and negotiated a gas sale contract with China valued in excess of $20B. He has also held. Board positions in the not-for-profit sector.  He is a FCPA.
