- Reza have worked for over 9 years in academia across a range of institutions both in Australia and internationally, alongside a 13 year-span in industry to include Information Technology, Commercial Construction, Retail Management, and ultimately in Education. These experiences afford a detailed understanding of pedagogic quality provisions, managing diverse teams and ultimately a keen eye towards graduate employability aligned with academic scholarship.

- Reza’s research interest include a broad range of disciplines including; logistics and supply chain management, integrated, reverse and green logistics, sustainable development, corporate social responsibility (CSR), emerging technologies, operations management, strategic outsourcing, business process reengineering (BPR), pollution reduction, anywhere working, smart cities, teaching pedagogies.

Dr. Reza Akbari is a Senior Lecturer (Supply Chain Management) at James Cook University, College of Business, Law, Governance. He has a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Logistics and Supply Chain from Victoria University (Melbourne), a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from University Putra Malaysia (Serdang), Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching and Learning from RMIT University (Melbourne), and a certificate of Teaching in Higher Education from Harvard University BOK Centre (Cambridge).
Before joining James Cook University, Reza worked in academia for more than 9 years in different institutions such as RMIT University, Victoria University, Asia Pacific International College (APIC), and Australian Institute of Business (AIB). In addition to his academic experience, Reza has lived internationally (Australia, UK, Germany, Iran, Malaysia, and Vietnam) and worked in numerous industries over a 13-year span in Information Technology (IT), Commercial Construction, Retail Management, and Senior Officer Management in Education.
While in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (2016-2021), he was Senior Program Manager (SPM) for the Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM) program, overseeing program quality assurance and program development for over 750 local and international students across Melbourne, Ho Chi Minh, and Hanoi campuses. He has worked with business and regional government agencies along with a number of private and public sector stakeholders, developing synergies and impact in his area of expertise.
Reza is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and an award-winning educator receiving RMIT’s Excellence in Teaching and Learning award for “Outstanding Contribution in Student’s Learning” in 2019, together with several other teaching recognitions. He is also a Certified Professional in Logistics Management (CPLM) along with other professional membership/qualifications with several internationally recognized bodies.
Reza has published extensively, with over 20 journal articles and a number of book chapters to his name. His works have been published in the Journal of Cleaner Production, Total Quality Management & Excellence, Social Responsibility, Benchmarking, Operations Management Research, Asian Journal of Shipping and Operations, Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM), as well as Education and Training.
Reza is the editorial member of “Operations Management Research” journal and an active reviewer for well-known international academic journals. He is currently supervising PhD candidates in his areas of interest.
