I am a functional ecologist working on coral reefs, mostly focusing on reef fishes. I am interested in understanding the in-built insurance of coral reefs, against drastic shifts in ecological conditions caused by climate change. Much of my work is based on observational field data studying the small-scale spatial ecology of reef fishes (i.e. watching fishes go about their daily lives). More recently I am increasingly working on more theoretical ecology, on the concept of 'functional traits' - its ecological utility and applications.
