 Tine joins the Production R&D subprogram within the Macroalgal Biofuels and Bioproducts project. Her research focuses on the controlled production of reproduction at scale in order to provide a reliable source of seed. This will allow sustainable and tailored seeding techniques resulting in commercially viable macroalgal biomass production.

Summary
Aquaculture is an important Queensland industry, but its expansion is curtailed by environmental issues. New aquacultural industries must ensure that there is no net-increase of nutrients in the water they discharge. However, the lack of economically viable technologies to capture nutrients highlights the considerable need to develop viable strategies to deliver 'zero net discharge' to enable the industry to grow to its full potential. This project will develop cost-effective waste water treatment from aquaculture and also add value to the industry through new product development.
