    • Descriptor

Ecological and social data collected during 2015 from coral reefs in South Buton, Indonesia. The study evaluated:

      • Ecological assessment of the coral reefs (diversity, abundance and distribution of benthic, fish and invertebrate communities)

      • Social study of reef interacting community (through fishing)

      • Overlap/interactions between fishing and reef

The dataset consists of 4 spreadsheets:

      (1) Invertebrate data from the Bau Bay region – 50 metre line intercept transects for each of 6 sites and summary data; GPS locations; abiotic data including complexity scores, temperature, light attenuation and tides

      (2) Stereo Video Surveys (SVD) data for each of the 6 sites; abundance, diversity, biomass, SWD (Shannon-Weiner Index) and final summary data; guild biomass data

      (3) Benthic data - structure of benthic habitats obtained through line intercept transects 50 metres using life form categorization from English et al.

      (4) Social data – 123 interviews with fishermen from the Bau Bau region, Siompu Island and Kadatua Island. Data includes demographics, fishing characteristics, mapping exercises, summaries for demography, occupation diversity, seasonality, zoning and catch, trial interviews and translations for fish names, fishing types, job titles and phrases.
