Biotic tropical seagrass seed dispersal by dugong and green sea turtles in the Great Barrier Reef

Data is of tropical seagrass seeds found in dugong and/or green sea turtle faecal samples. Samples were collected from Cleveland Bay, Upstart Bay and Pioneer in the central Great Barrier Reef in 2014. Samples were kept in seawater from the site (not frozen) before being sieved in freshwater and scoped to find seagrass seeds. Seagrass seeds were stained in a Tetrazolium solution to determine viability. Data was recorded on the weight of faecal samples (wet and oven dried), number of seagrass seeds found and species, whether the seeds were viable after excretion and the number with split seed coats. Seagrass species found were Zostera muelleri (ZM), Halophila spp. (HO) (identification to genera only possible), Halophila decipiens (HD) and Halodule uninervis (HU)
