The current study aims to investigate mental health among Chinese people in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Statistics provided by National Health Commission of China, regarding cases and deaths per region, were used to categorise Wuhan, Hubei outside Wuhan, and elsewhere in China into high, moderate, and low infection severity areas. A sample of 1,202 Chinese participants were surveyed between April and June, 2020. The sample consisted of 763 females (63.5%) and 439 males (36.5%), with an average age of 29.62 years (SD = 12.72, range = 18-78). There were 282, 162 and 758 participants from the high (23.5%), moderate (13.4%) and low (63.1%) infection severity areas, respectively.
