Wildlife viewing preferences of visitors to protected areas in Sabah, Malaysia: implications for the role of wildlife tourism in conservation

This Sabah, Malaysia, reflective tourism thesis data set, shows knowledge capture and outbound information collates against consumptive experiences, and activities of wildlife tourism to deliver greater environmental trust, destination loyalty and overall tour satisfaction. This research model frames a benchmarking pathway for the ongoing development of wildlife tourism at destination.

This dataset consists of the following files:

  • Wildlife Airport Survey KKIA 2010.a – survey questions in MS Word (.doc) format and saved in PDF (.pdf) format for preservation purposes. KKIA refers to the Kota Kinabalu International Airport in Sabah, Malaysia
  • Data JCU factors – SPSS data in SAV (.sav) format. This file has also been saved as a comma-separated values (.csv) file to assist non SPSS users 
  • Data Dictionary_Data JCU Factors SPSS file - data dictionary in PDF format
  • Construct_MeasuresA – SPSS syntax file in .sps format. Compute steps included:

  • Rotated Component Matrixa – key output of the principle components analysis (estimates of correlations between each of the variables and the estimated components). Saved in MS Word (.doc) and PDF (.pdf) formats.

The remaining files are outputs from the SPSS AMOS module, which is used for structural equation modelling (SEM):

  • sabah4a.amw – Amos Graphics file (path model)
  • sabah4.AmosOutput – Amos Graphics list output (can be opened in a browser)
  • sabah4.bk1 – Amos Graphics backup file
  • 09956A63ED.AmosP – AmosP files contain “function of log likelihood” statistics for the saturated and independence models, calculated from selected cases and variables.
