I am presently an Associate Professor at James Cook University, Townsville, where I have been employed since 2013. My current role is Associate Dean, Learning & Teaching for the College of Medicine & Dentistry.
I have over 25 years of academic experience, predominantly in Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. I am a basic scientist by trade, with a PhD in neurophysiology and pharmacology from the University of Melbourne. I have since worked as an academic across many Medical, Biomedical Science, and Allied Health programs in multiple Universities across Qld.
I am most passionate about quality teaching and student learning. In 2011, I received an ALTC Australian Award for Teaching Excellence in recognition of my outstanding and sustained performance in teaching, curriculum development, leadership and scholarship of teaching. During my recent years in senior management at JCU, I have continued a relatively high teaching load, with over 300 hours of face-to-face teaching each year, mostly to Year 1-3 students, on content areas including anatomy and physiology, cell biology, basic and clinical pharmacology, pathophysiology and pathology.
