My research interests revolve around temporal calibration of sedimentary records that preserve evidence of critical periods in Earth history. I am an avid U-Pb geochronologist with a background in CA-ID-TIMS and I thrive within the intersection of geochemistry, sedimentology, stratigraphy, volcanology and more.
I currently lead research in tephrostratigraphy and tephrochronology using phenocrystic zircon from volcanic ash interbedded with basin sequences. My focus is the calibration of strata representing critical periods in Earth’s history including the peak of dinosaur diversity during the end Cretaceous preceding the K-Pg mass extinction. The development of temporally precise frameworks for fossil ecosystems facilitates investigation of complex palaeoecological patterns by coupling processes that occur at different time scales from crustal processes, to volcanism, to biotic evolution and climatic change.
