Leigh’s current projects include on-going taxonomic revisions of the terrestrial flatworms of Australia and the Subantarctic Islands of New Zealand; continuing collaboration with Professor J-L Justine, Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France, and Prof Romain Gastineau , University of Szczecin, Poland, on invasive land planarians in France and in French Territories, and the iNaturalist project “Land planarians of the World”. Leigh uses traditional morphological techniques including histology to identify and classify species. This is an essential component of the total evidence approach to taxonomy and systematics of land flatworms where these traditional morphological methods are combined with the molecular analyses undertaken by his colleagues in Europe, with whom he collaborates on this research.
