- Research Disciplines
Jon Woodend is originally from Canada where he earned a BSc (Hons) in Psychology at Mount Allison University, and an MSc and PhD in Educational Psychology (Counselling Psychology) at the University of Calgary. Jon is also a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists in Canada.
For his research portfolio, Jon is focused on understanding newcomers' experiences in educational institutions and the workforce in order to inform effective policy and practices to support newcomers. Specifically, Jon has lead studies looking at the experiences of international students' accompanying partners in accessing university supports, international students' experience transitioning into the workforce post-study, and skilled immigrant worker's life satisfaction. Jon is also focused on exploring the best ways to support graduate students in developing research and clinical skills to be scientist-practitioners.
In terms of clinical practice, Jon is specialised in supporting clients with anxiety, depression, stress, and general mental health and well-being concerns. Jon has been a clinical counsellor at secondary and university counselling centres, supporting students and the larger campus community.
