About

Dr Karnika Bansal is a Law Lecturer in the College of Business, Law, and Governance. She holds a Master of Laws in Intellectual Property (IP) from Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, and a dual degree in Bachelor of Arts and Laws (B.A. LL.B.) with Economic Honours from Panjab University, India. Karnika completed her PhD in copyright law from Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, where she also taught various law subjects as part of their undergraduate programs from 2019 to 2023.

Prior to moving to Australia in 2017, Karnika worked at an IP law firm, after she was admitted to practice at the Bar Council of Delhi, India in 2015. During her tenure, she supported the firm's copyright and trademark litigation teams and provided counsel to music studios and IT companies on IP contracts and litigation strategies.

Karnika's main area of expertise lies in intellectual property law, particularly copyright law. Her PhD thesis and publications examine national and international copyright regulations, including the intricate relationship that links the entertainment industry with relevant legal frameworks. Karnika's current research interests revolve around the convergence of copyright law and artificial intelligence, the protection of indigenous art and culture through IP, and concerns related to the commercialisation of intellectual property.
