Nathan Dawes, PhD, MPH, BOccThy, FHEA is an occupational therapist and public health Academic within the College of Public Health, Medical and Veterinary Sciences, James Cook University. As a clinician, he has professional experience in aged care, mental health, and occupational rehabilitation across the public and private health care sectors. He currently teaches into a range of public health subjects including Health and Health Care in Australia (HS1401) and Health Promotion for Health Professionals (HS2403) and is Course Coordinator for the Master of Public Health (JCU).
Nathan is an emerging researcher in the field of Health Policy and Systems Research (HPSR). Within this area, he focuses on the intersection of leadership, workforce development and health service delivery in aged care, mental health and post-disaster settings. In 2022, Nathan commpleted his PhD exploring the role of leadership to promoting and protecting the quality of aged care. Nathan represents the discipline on the Early Career and Postgraduate Students Sub-Committee of CAPHIA (Council of Academic Public Health Institutions Australasia) and is Chair- elect to the Society for Health Administration Programs in Education (SHAPE) - Practitioner and Industry Engagement Committee.
