About

Dr. Janice Scarinci earned her Ph.D. in Tourism at James Cook University in North Queensland, Australia on a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship.  Dr. Scarinci has taught Hospitality and Tourism in 5 countries on 3 continents and has over 20 years of academic experience as a Department Chair and Director of a Hospitality and Tourism Institute. She also has over 11 years of hospitality and tourism industry experience in Florida, Sicily and Bermuda.  Her research interests include, guest satisfaction, motivation and marketing, sustainable tourism and lodging and the effects of international travel on employable skills and experiential learning.  She has published in peer reviewed journals, presented at international conferences and has published book chapters on these topics.

Janice earned the Distinguished Educator Award in 2017 from Southern Utah University, and the Faculty Excellence awards from Northwood University in 2012 and 2004.  Janice is certified by the National Society of Experiential Education on the development of flipped classes and online and blended learning.  Janice was awarded the Curriculum Innovative Grant at Southern Utah University for the advancement of international experiential education.

Janice has published in ERA publications and was awarded “best paper” at two international conferences in Australia and the United States with refereed scholarly papers.  She has completed over 44 applied research and scholarly projects and was awarded over $200,000 in competitive international grants and scholarships.  Janice has been honoured by the hospitality industry by being the recipient of the “Allied Member of the Year” from the Palm Beach County Hotel & Lodging Association, the “Change Maker Award” from Rotary International, and the “Outstanding Citizen Award” by the Mayor of West Palm Beach for outstanding service to the community and the university.
