About

Background

I am an Early Career Development Fellow with the College of Business, law and Governance at the James Cook University, (JCU) Cairns Campus. I research all aspects of the development and ongoing market success of organisations around their inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics, strategy, structure, processes and people.

My research feeds into lecturing in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program and the Bachelor of Business degree at the Cairns and Townsville campuses. I supervise Masters and PhD students in my areas of expertise.

Work experience spans operations, production, maintenance, HR/IR, climate change, training and development, sustainability, energy efficiency, business development and project roles within mining, sugar, renewables, energy, TAFE/tertiary, consulting and requisite organisation. I am a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), non-executive board member of Tully Sugar Limited (TSL) owned by the Chinese agribusiness COFCO. Previous chair of the Vocational Partnership Group and non-executive board member of Skills 360 Australia, and executive of Sugar North Ltd.

Base electrical qualifications are augmented by an MBA (1995) and a PhD (2011). The thesis is founded on organisational development (OD), change management (Kotter's 8 step model) and the organisational research of Elliott Jaques (Requisite Organisation) in the global mining and refining industry.

The thesis is founded on organisational change management in the Australian mining industry -predominately Conzinc Riotinto Australia (CRA) and Comalco (now Rio Tinto and Rio Tinto Alcan). The study is based around the leadership of Sir Roderick Carnegie, the organisational theories of Elliott Jaques and the change management model of Professor John Kotter from Harvard. The thesis examines competitiveness, leadership, organisation development, change management, business unit and executive structures, culture, re-structuring, learning and development, strategic re-alignment, industrial relations, core business, outsourcing, career development, the union movement, employment and single status workforce models.
